Support & FAQ
FloRun Support
FloRun is a flow-rate measurement utility for environmental field workers. It computes gallons per minute, hour, and day from three input methods: timed volume capture, calibrated 5-gallon bucket readings, and triangular notch weir charts.
Quick Start
Timed Volume (bucket, container, or stream sample)
- On the Measure tab, choose Timed Volume.
- Tap Start when flow begins.
- Tap Stop when capture is complete.
- Enter the captured volume and pick a unit (mL, L, fl oz, US gal).
- The GPM, GPH, and GPD appear instantly.
Calibrated 5-Gallon Bucket
- Time the bucket fill exactly as above.
- For the unit, choose 5-gal bucket (in).
- Enter the water column height in inches; FloRun looks up the gallons from the calibration chart.
Triangular Notch Weir
- Switch to the V-Notch Weir tab.
- Choose 90° or 60° notch.
- Enter the head height in inches.
- Flow rate appears immediately — no stopwatch required.
Saving and Exporting
Tap Save Measurement after a calculation to keep it. You'll be prompted for an optional site label, notes, and your current location (with permission).
From the History tab:
- Tap any record to view full details, edit site/notes, or export a single-record PDF.
- Tap Export All in the toolbar to export the full history as PDF or CSV.
- Swipe a record left to delete it, or open it and tap Delete Measurement.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many measurements does FloRun keep?
FloRun keeps the last 25 saved measurements on your device. When you save a 26th, the oldest is removed automatically. Export to PDF or CSV before then if you need long-term records.
Does FloRun work without an internet connection?
Yes — FloRun is fully offline. It does not require an internet connection at any time, and no data is ever sent off your device.
Where is my data stored?
Saved measurements are stored only in FloRun's private storage on your iPhone or iPad. They are not backed up to any external server by FloRun. If you want a copy, export to PDF or CSV.
Why does the V-Notch weir mode show "below chart minimum"?
The published weir chart starts at 1 inch of head. Below 1 inch, FloRun cannot give a reliable flow estimate and treats the reading as no measurable flow. Increase the head, or use a different measurement method.
Why is my bucket reading clamped at the chart maximum?
The 5-gallon bucket calibration chart goes up to 13.75 inches (≈ 5.30 US gallons). If you enter a height above that, FloRun shows the maximum chart value and warns you that the result is clamped. For higher fills, use a larger container or a weir.
The stopwatch was running when I closed the app — what happens?
Next time you open FloRun, you'll see a recovery prompt with three choices: Continue Timing (keep the run going), Stop Now (lock in the elapsed time so you can record a measurement), or Discard (throw out the run).
Why can the timer keep running while I'm on the V-Notch Weir tab?
The stopwatch and weir-head modes are independent. If you started the timer in Timed Volume mode and then switched tabs, the timer continues. A small banner appears at the top of the weir tab showing the running timer, and tapping it jumps you back to the timed mode.
How do I export everything to a spreadsheet?
Open the History tab, tap Export All in the upper-right toolbar, and choose Export as CSV. The CSV file uses UTF-8 with a BOM, ISO 8601 timestamps, and POSIX-locale numbers, so it opens cleanly in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets.
I accidentally deleted a measurement. Can I undo it?
No — deletions are permanent. Both the swipe-to-delete in the list and the explicit Delete button in the detail view ask for confirmation. If you need a record to be recoverable, export it to PDF or CSV before deleting.
The flow rate seems wrong — is FloRun broken?
Always verify against your reference. FloRun is an assistance aid: results depend on the accuracy of your timing, your volume reading, the underlying chart values, and the conditions in the field. For regulatory or compliance work, cross-check critical readings with calibrated instruments and qualified personnel.
How do I revoke or grant location access?
Open iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → FloRun and choose Never, Ask Next Time Or When I Share, or While Using the App. FloRun functions normally without location access; saved measurements just won't include GPS coordinates.
